Welcome to the Mahmud Gawan Madrasa, a college built in the fifteenth century by Mahmud Gawan, the learned prime minister of the Bahmani kingdom. Scholars came here from many lands to study and teach, and it held a large library. The front was covered with glazed tiles in green, blue and yellow, and you can still see some of them on the surviving minaret. Part of the building was destroyed in the seventeenth century, but what remains is one of the finest examples of this style in India.
